The artworks of genius outlast the centuries, though each author was the representative of his country, lived in certain specific circumstances and was under influence of that time culture. It is always possible to find tremendous modern motives in such works of art. So the Russian genius Alexander Pushkin has left the lines which should cause doubts even to the positions of those people who perceive unconditionally positively the activity of Peter I, вважає цілком нормальним при згадці про українського гетьмана Івана Мазепу застосовувати всю можливу лексику, яка носить негативний відтінок:
